General Orthodontics
Orthodontics focuses specifically on correcting teeth (straightening them) and jaw alignment problems. This is often achieved through the use of braces, plates or headgear. Wavell Family Dental are recognised providers of Invisalign which is another option available to gradually move and align teeth.
The straightening or moving of teeth not only improves the appearance of teeth, but also how they work. It is important to ensure your mouth functions properly when eating and chewing. Orthodontic treatment also helps to look after the long-term health of teeth, gums and jaw. Biting pressure should be spread over all teeth.
Early intervention and treatment is always preferred and is often best carried out in teenage years. However adults can have orthodontic treatment too and more and more are doing so. Having the proper number of teeth is more important than age. It may be necessary to wait for enough teeth to come through before starting treatment for children.
A full examination is required before starting orthodontic treatment.
